Latest Updates from Our Project:

The Centennial
over 7 years ago – Sun, Nov 11, 2018 at 09:00:47 AM

Friends,

Today marks the centennial of the end of the First World War.  As world leaders gather en masse, as communities hold ceremonies to honor their own fallen, as we each take a moment to reflect in private, the idea of remembrance is ever-present.

As you may know, we are remembering the First World War with a collection of writings.  These writings speak to every side of the conflict, from voices not usually heard.  It is called:

Beauty is the Beginning of Terror

The anthology was curated by cadets at West Point, using the resources of their own archives, and is introduced by General Martin Dempsey, who was the highest ranking U. S. military official under President Obama.  Together, they lead us in remembering the tragedy of war from all its sides.  For us at the Press, it is poignant to hear these voices.

As General Dempsey writes in his introduction, “The young cadets who have assembled this anthology of World War I poetry are far more likely than their peers in other walks of life to experience the terrors of war, to explore the intersection of beauty and terror, of honor and cruelty, of patriotism and nationalism when politics and diplomacy fail.  For them, but also for those who will send them into this cauldron, this is an important book.”

We hope you will join us again in celebrating ideas which matter.  The ideas in this book deserve to be heard, and deserve to be passed down.  Wishing you peace and reflection on this centennial day,

TWP

ANNOUNCING: Beauty is the Beginning of Terror
over 7 years ago – Mon, Nov 05, 2018 at 06:14:18 AM

Dear friends,

We are so pleased to announce our next book: Beauty is the Beginning of Terror.

This week marks the centennial of the end of the First World War.  In remembrance of this international event, we have worked with the cadets and faculty of the U. S. Military Academy at West Point to put together an anthology of writings from The Great War unlike any which has ever existed.  The book boasts twelve never-before-seen facsimile reproductions of artifacts from the War, and the introduction is written by General Martin E. Dempsey, who served as the highest U. S. military official, as President Obama's Chairman of the Joint Chiefs.

Take me to the book

We hope you will consider joining us once again as we pursue the art of fine bookmaking and the celebration of high ideals in the 21st century.

The book is available in several bindings and as an ebook.

Best wishes and highest regards as always,

THANK YOU

Dear friends,

We are deeply honored by your support of this edition of Pride and Prejudice.  Together, we are celebrating the written word and ensuring that the craft of fine bookmaking endures.

The design of the layout is nearing completion as our printing team preps the presses.  Thornwillow was founded in 1985, and since then has published seventy-two books.  We are delighted to announce that Pride and Prejudice will be the longest, at nearly four hundred pages.  That's a lot of letterpress!  Naturally, our printing team is excited.

Keep your eyes open for two big announcements next week.

First, the surveys will be sent late in the week.  Please return these as soon as you can, as they provide us with the information we need to get you your book.  It's not just your mailing address either — we use them to learn which name you'd like included on the subscribers list and which copy number(s) you'd like.

Second, an announcement is coming on our next edition.  We can't wait to share it with you, and we hope you'll join us again!

In the meantime, here are some photos from our design team!
